World leaders from the Arab world dominated Sunday’s opening ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Among the prominent attendees were Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, a close ally of Qatar.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the presidents of Egypt and Algeria, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations attended the opening ceremony.

Fifa World Cup 2022 Highlights, November 20, 2022: The opening ceremony in Qatar was a visual spectacle for fans around the world. At the beginning of the film, the Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman narrated, extending a yellow-gloved hand to a FIFA World Cup ambassador who was suffering from a rare spinal disorder in an image meant to symbolize inclusion in a country that is being criticized for its poor human rights records.

Following that, singer Jungkook from the Korean boy band BTS, along with Qatari singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi, performed a new stadium song entitled Dreamers as part of the tournament as a part of the performance. A call was then made by Qatar’s ruler for people of all races and orientations to put aside their differences in order to play together at the World Cup.
